Secure Transactions
My Crab Cakes with its affiliates uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology
to ensure your orders are transmitted safely over the Web. Without getting too
technical, SSL translates all the information you send to us into an
indecipherable code right within the browser on your computer.
Your credit card number is encrypted and transmitted to Cyber cash using 256-bit
SSL technology. It transmits approval (but not the credit card number) over the
Web to our merchant. Each part of the information sent over the Web is assigned
a separate encryption key; thus, each transmission is scrambled in a different
way. All transmissions over the Web are sent as a series of small packets so
that not all information is transmitted at the same instant. It would be
extremely difficult for anyone to identify an encrypted packet as a credit card
charge and decipher it.
To date, not one single transmission over the Web has been intercepted when this
technology has been used.
In effect, using your credit card on our site is as safe as swiping your card
through the register at the supermarket.
How do I know if a web site is secure?
When buying something on the Internet, there are three things to ensure:
1. The data that you send is encrypted.
2. The site you're doing business with is the site you think it is.
3. The site you're doing business with processes your credit card and address
information in a safe and
responsible manner.
The first two items above are taken care of by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the
industry standard security protocol that our affiliate merchants use. Critical
data transmitted to and from a secure server like ours is encrypted. You don't
have to know whether your browser supports secure transactions -- if it doesn't,
you won't be able to complete the checkout process.
Many security experts say the most important thing is what happens once the
merchant receives your order. Several steps are taken to keep things on our end
as safe as possible. Orders are encrypted until they're ready to be processed.
All ordering is processed on Cyber cash servers, which are not connected to the
Internet, so there's no danger of people gaining access to them.
If a "warning" window (depending on your configuration) comes up, what does it
mean?
The browser is notifying you about entering or leaving a secure area on our Web
site. Critical information and credit card transactions are only handled in
secure areas. As long as your browser shows its "secure mode symbol," we
guarantee it's safe to send us your private information. If you want to, you can
disable this warning.
Respecting your privacy
Your name and personal information are kept totally confidential. We will never
sell or trade your name to anyone else. We will not put you on our mailing list
unless you ask us to do so by emailing your request, placing an order, or
subscribing to our update list.
Although we may email you from time to time to keep you informed of new content
and exciting hot deals, you will always be able to remove yourself from our
mailing list. We follow a strict policy of only sending emails that are
relevant, expected, and related to your interests. By letting us know more about
you, we can streamline our email content to you so that you won't spend time
looking at information that you aren't interested in seeing.
